 About Us

Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo Idaho! is a community-based dance group from the Treasure Valley. Established in 2003, The 40+member group is dedicated to teaching and sharing the heritage-rich tradition of Mexican folk dance. 

Reflecting a colorful, vibrant culture, the dances portray the life events, emotions and history of the beautiful regions in Mexico. Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo practices weekly at their studio, Alma Folklorica, located at 1224 1st St. South #204 in Downtown Nampa, behind Messenger Pizza.

Instructor/Artist Director

Monique Michel-Duarte is a dedicated, accomplished dancer originally from Los Angeles, California who has danced folklorico almost all of her life. She has danced with and performed in Ballet Folklorico de Victoria Maria Rodriguez, Ballet Folklorico Del Sur de California, and Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo (originally from Bellflower, California). Her dance repertoire includes traditional ballet, Ballet Folklorico, Azteca, and Flamenco. Professional performance venues include Spanish cable television shows, Dodger Stadium, Catalina Island, Harrah’s in Laughlin, Santa Barbara's "Spanish Days", the California Missions, and has performed throughout the Western United States.  

After Monique moved to Idaho, she received the Traditional Arts  Apprenticeship from the Idaho Commission on the Arts in 2000 and the Zion's Bank 2005 "Smart Women Smart Money Grant" and also won a Quick Funds Professional Development grant from the Idaho Commission on the Arts in 2014. She serves as a commissioner on the Nampa Arts Commission, is a member of the National Association of Latino Arts & Culture, Danzantes Unidos Festival from Northern California, member of the Downtown Nampa Business Association, volunteer for the Nampa Art Collective, committee organizer and founder of "Dia en Downtown", and celebrates nearly 13 years of business ownership as owner of Idaho only all-Folklorico dance studio, Alma Folklorica

After 25 years of experience in California , Monique now resides in Idaho with her husband and two daughters and passes the rich tradition of Ballet Folklorico to a new generation.
